Mindfulness. This meditation technique follows
and uses the breath. Mindfulness allows for better concentration, focus
and control over thoughts, helping to restore emotional equilibrium.
Loving-Kindness. This technique begins by practicing
self-love and acceptance. Ultimately we extend these sentiments into compassion
for all beings. This fosters the tolerance and understanding that are
so necessary at this time.
Tonglen. The heart has the capacity to handle any
condition or state that we may experience. When we embrace our internal
suffering instead of running away from it, the heart softens and awakens.
We then begin to connect to and understand that all beings experience
the same suffering. With this compassionate awareness, we breathe out
that which we wish for ourselves and the world.
We will read, study and discuss from the teachings of Pema
Chodron, Steven Levine, Sharon Salzberg, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Jack Kornfield
and Thich Nhat Hahn.
